James Island
James Island lies due west of the Charleston Peninsula and borders West Ashley, Johns Island, and Folly Beach.  According to the 2005 population census, there are currently 16,217 residents on James Island.  James Island consists of a large number of saltwater tidal creeks, vast marshes, and incredible backyard views.  Mature Oaks seem to line almost every street.  Due to its close proximity to the Beach and Downtown, James Island is a favorite place to reside in the Charleston area.  Made up of mostly single-family residences, James Island is sometimes referred to as the “bedroom community” to Charleston.

There are a number of restaurants, shops, and things to do on James Island.  Two golf courses, James Island County Park, and outdoor activities such as crabbing, fishing, and boating are just a few of the things one can do here.  James Island itself is entirely self sufficient, but if you get the “itch” to go to downtown Charleston it’s only a short 10 minute drive away.
